[9.20.2003]

I just posted this review over at YAHOO MOVIES for UNDERWORLD.

Underworld (2003)

Overall Grade: A
Story: A+
Acting: A
Direction: A
Visuals: A+

Really Impressed - I had a great time.

by deadpixel Sep 20, 2003

Due to word-of-mouth and critics reviews... I lowered my expectations when seeing UNDERWORLD. This movie is AWESOME.

I overheard someone behind us saying (before the movies started) to his girlfriend "It's like the matrix with vampires"... I moved. Naysayers like that should be shot.

Naysayer #2 - walking out of the theater... "Two words - copyright infringement" He is lucky he was out of an arm's reach or I would have PIMPSLAPPED HIM FOR HIS INSOLENCE.

... anyway this movie is great... naysayers shouldn't even bother seeing it... and should be shot too. Oh! and if I ever own a theater there will be SNIPERS taking out ANYONE who's phone rings aloud during ANY movie.

Umm... go see it.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO PRESS PLAY - "THE NOOSE" by A Perfect Circle (Track 03 on Thirteenth Step)

so glad to see you well
overcome them completely
silent now
with heaven's help
you've cast your demons out

and not to pull your halo down
around your neck and tug you off your cloud

but i'm more than just a little curious
how you're planning to go about making your amends
to the dead
to the dead

recall the deeds as if they're all
someone else's atrocious stories
now you stand reborn before us all
so glad to see you well

and not to pull your halo down
around your neck and tug you to the ground

but i'm more than just a little curious
how you're planning to go about making your amends
to the dead
to the dead

with your halo slipping down

your halo's slipping
your halo's slipping down
your halo's slipping down
your halo's slipping down (chorus in background)
your halo's slipping down
your halo's slipping down
your halo's slipping out now
your halo's slipping out
your halo's slipping down
your halo's slipping down
to choke you now

... This song fits me so well right now.

I GOT THE NEW APC ALBUM... and I like it.

No Paz = No violins. (BTW I TOLD YOU SO ON ZWAN - they broke up) COME BACK PAZ!

It's different. "Weak and Powerless" is the first single... and it is by far the one of the strongest song on the album so far. There is more of a focus on guitar this time around, and the bass (Twiggy) is heavier.

Another standout is the 3rd track - "The Noose" - Damn this song is good. It strikes a chord in me...

and not to pull your halo down
around your neck and tug you off your cloud

I am giving it my 1st "headphones" listen.

"Do you like swedish fish?"

I am really disappointed in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO... ** out of 5 stars. (RENTER)

One word: Streamline.

* * * * *

I can't stop listening to the UNDERWORLD soundtrack.

Tracks of note:

- 10 - Johnette Napolitano - Suicide Note
- 19 - Sarah Bettens - All of this Past

I have always loved female singers... and I love the dark piano and industrial beat in these songs.

Looking forward to getting the new A Perfect Circle album tomorrow....

Wow. I heard of two great losses today.

I have always respected Johnny Cash... He was the only country singer that I ever found cool and acceptable. His version of "Hurt" by NIN was really good, and the video was just amazing. Not many things floor me, but that left me speechless. I have always wanted to read his autobiography... and I think I may pick it up this weekend.

Another was John Ritter. I grew up watching "Three's Company"... It was alot of fun and laughs when I was a kid.

...

Godspeed.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO PRESS PLAY - "My City of Ruins" by Bruce Springsteen

This is the second year I have tried to write down my memories of September
11th, 2001.

I can't do it. I want to write my story but it is all jumbled in my heart and
mind. I can't because that day was full of pain and confusion, and it comes
back every time I think about it. But I have to write something... So here goes...

I remember the weather that day, and where I was. The customer watching it all
on their television.

I remember the shock and surreal feeling of watching the first tower on fire.
The emptiness inside, watching the replay of the first plane hitting.

I remember realizing it wasn't an accident when the second plane hit. The confusion.

I remember not being able to take my eyes away from the screen, even though
we were all in the middle of a job... How everything just seemed to slow down...

I remember the two towers on fire, with all of the firemen, EMT's, and all
of the emergency crews rushing into both buildings...

I remember watching, live on televison... the first tower collapse. The "OH
MY GOD" that couldn't stop coming out of my mouth.

I remember immediately thinking of the emergency crews that had just rushed
in to help those people who were trapped in the building.

I remember hearing the of the second tower collapsing. Why/How is this happening?

I remember being frustrated that my phone didn't have a signal as I tried to
call my mother at her school. She didn't even know it was happening until I
told her. I finally got through and begged her to go home... That they should
all get out and just go home.

I remember trying to keep from breaking down after I got off the phone.

I remember talking alot, but I don'remember any of the words - or the rest
of the job. I think I was in shock.

I remember driving home, which was such a long drive away... Looking at the
people as I drove by. Few crying, some just as shocked as I was, some blissfully
ignorant... My resolve holding as I listened to the radio.

I remember getting out of my truck, walking into my house... and just being
able to FEEL the pain and death in the air. Hardly being able to think or breath
as if I was choking on the ashes of the World Trade Center. The weight on my
heart.

I remember waking up my roomate who had no idea of what was happening... and
being angered at the "Wow that's messed up" reaction as opposed to
the "THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE DYING" feeling that I had... I was crushed.

I remember finally closing the door to my room... Turning the lights off, and
the television.

I remember turning the television off. I couldn't deal with it anymore. I just
wanted to hide...

I remember breaking down. I remember crying so hard it hurt.

I remember ending up at my mother's house that night... Just trying to be together.
I remember getting gas before everyone rushed to the stations...

And that was it...

The next day we worked even though I didn't want to go. I was so tired... I
remember being frustrated that the customer not really caring...

THAT WAS 3000+ INNOCENT PEOPLE THAT JUST DIED FOR NO REASON. NOT SOLDIERS,
NOT POLITICIANS. PEOPLE! WHO DOES THIS KIND OF THING??!?!

I remember in the coming days and weeks... I had never seen so many American
flags flown before. They were everywhere you went, and always seemed to be blowing
in the wind as if telling all of us to stay strong.

A year later... I remember being in my truck and hearing "In the Sun"
by Joseph Arthur for the first time in rememberance. It was the "Catch
of the day" on 89x... I was crying by the end of the song... And it has
since become one of my favorite songs.

Now I think of how weird it is to see the towers standing in movies and t.v.
shows. How creepy it is to see those lights that symbolize what we ALL lost
that day.

Now two years since the fall of the World Trade Center... I remember how much
it hurts.

And to this day I may never understand... but I will always remember.

Okay... I have decided.

The two best lines in the Lord of the Rings movies are as follows.

(Clears throat) A-HEM

(Drumroll)

Fellowship of the Ring: Legolas "The horn of Gondor!"

The Two Towers: Gollum "What's taters, precious?"

Return of the King: Will find out in December.
